Terre irridente

Terre irridente is the name of the areas of Austria which were considered Italian after Italy claimed independence.
After Italy declared independence in 1861, some areas that Italians believed should have been included in the country's stake remained in Austrian possession. The northeastern areas of Tyrol, Trento and Trieste spoke Italian and had Italian cultural influence, yet they were not included in the treaty for independence. After the First World War, these parts of Austria were relinqushed to Italy.
