Ter Heijde

Ter Heijde (52°2′N 4°10′E) is a town in the Dutch province of South Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Westland, and lies about 11 km west of 's-Gravenhage.

The statistical area "Ter Heijde", which also can include the surrounding countryside, has a population of around 690.[1] The population is mostly older people.

The small village is known for the Battle of Ter Heijde (also known as The Battle of Scheveningen). This was the final battle in the First Anglo-Dutch War, which saw the death of Admiral Maarten Tromp. In remembrance of the battle there is a monument in the village. In 2003, 350 years after the battle, the Tromp-festival was held.

Ter Heijde is a popular beach-resort for the area, as it has two beaches. It also has a KNRM-station.
