Tenali

Tenali (తెనాలి) is a town in Guntur District of Andhra Pradesh, India. It has a population of 149,839 (2001 census), located 16 miles south of Guntur City. Three canals of the Krishna river flow through Tenali making it a part of the rice bowl of Andhra Pradesh. Tenali is a major railway junction connecting Guntur, Vijayawada and Chennai routes.

Tenali is known for its rich cultural and literary legacy. It has produced many famous poets, actors and educationists. Because of its contribution to literature, theatrical art, films and education, it is called as Andhra Paris. Tenali has contributed a major share to stage drama industry. There are quite a few extra ordinary artists who later moved on to film industry like Kanchanamala, Kongara Jaggayya, Gummadi Venkateswara Rao, Jamuna, Edwin, Sarada and Krishna.

The major important villages are Angalakuduru,Burripalem,Pedapudi, Chinaparimi,Chinaravuru, Pedaravuru, Munnangi, Kancherla Palem, Modukuru, Jampani,Yadavuru, Emani, Chivalur, Kollipara and Chiluvur.
In Telugu Film Industry(Tollywood), famous superstar Krishna was born in Burripalem village. He acted more than 330 films as a hero oriented roles.
Kancherla Palem is a historical village where famous freedom fighters were born one of them is Chukkapalli Venkata Satyanarayana.the famous man named gali venkaiah chowdary lived there only .he has 100 acres land . Kakumanu's clan, Alapati's clan, Anche's clan, Kaki's clan, Veerisetty's clan, Ravi's clan, Vadlamudi's clan, Davuluri's clan, Gali's clan, Chukkapalli's clan, Ravoori's clan, Tathireddy's clan, Yarramraju's clan,mantena's clan, Vishnubotla's clan, Avuthu's clan, Tadiboyina's clan, Doddapaneni's, Chadalawada's clan, Devabhakthuni's clan and Challa's clan are the famous families in Tenali. They have donated huge amount of valuable properties to temples and erected several Satras across the city.
Bhattiprolu is well known for its Buddha stupa (Chinna Lanja dibba and Vikramarka kota dibba) built about 3rd-2nd century BC. This is where where Alexander Rea discovered inscriptions of a special variety on the lids of stone caskets. The inscribed stone casket is considered to be the Rosetta stone of South India with Asokan Brahmi script.[1]

There are a good number of famous temples like Kanyaka Parameswari temple, Vaikunthapuram, Patha Shivalayam, Ramalingeswara Alayam, Patha Anjaneya swamy gudi, Chitti Anjaneya Swami gudi, Morrispet Shivalayam, Saibaba temple next to over bridge, Appala swamy temple etc. Festivals are celebrated throughout the year. Bhattiprolu, 28 km away from Teneli, is well known for its Buddha stupa.
It is most well known as the hometown of Tenali Ramakrishna (also known as Tenali Rama), the legendary court jester in King Krishnadevaraya's court.
Two famous scientists from Tenali are the late Dr. Y. Nayudamma and Dr. A. V. Rama Rao, Dr. Jandhyala (a famous kidney specialist who worked at CMC Vellore). It is the place where first A.P's printing press Kakumanu Press established and it printed Brahmam Gari Kalagnanam in 1930.
Tenali has all the specialities and is part of the twin cities of Coastal Andhra comprising Guntur, Tenali and Vijayawada. It is located in the junction to Vijayawada and Guntur. The three cities are very near to each other. All major trains stop here and it is one of the most famous business centres on the Chennai - Vijayawada line. It is called a small city by all for its importance. the vice roy.
Tenali is well known for its educational institutions and their standards. Its very green through out the year in and around Tenali. Its just 30 km from Bay of Bengal.Its generally hot and humid during summer with temperatures ranging between 32-39 C. Winters are milder between 15-23 C.
