Temple Newsam
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Temple Newsam is an estate in the city of Leeds, West Yorkshire, England, that lies in the east of the city. The estate was the site of the Leeds Festival from its founding in 1999 until 2002. Subsequent Leeds Festivals have been held at Bramham Park.
In the 16th century, a Jacobean country house, Temple Newsham House, was built on the site, which is described by some as "the Hampton Court of the North". Its full name partly dates from the 12th century when the Knights Templar were granted the manor of Newsam by Henry DeLacy.
