Telecadena Perez-Perry
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Telecadena Perez-Perry was a group of several television stations operating in Puerto Rico from 1960 to 1981.
In 1960, Rafael Perez Perry received authorization to operate WKBM-TV, on channel 11; he also owned one of the most successful radio stations on the island (WKBM AM). The station was also called "El Doble Uno" ("The Double One") because of the station's logo: two dominoes with one dot on each domino. The Nueva Ola musical movement was starting and many of Alfred D'Herger's shows were aired on these stations.
Channels 9 WSUR, 10, 22 WNJX-TV, and 44 WPRV retransmitted Telecadena Perez-Perry's signal, which included programs like Cambia Cambia, Los Rayos Gamma, Pinina, Quinceañera, La Srta. Helena, Teenagers Matinee, El 11 en Las Noticias, and many others. With Perry's death, the station group faced serious economic problems and eventually declared bankruptcy in 1981. Later, Lorimar-Telepictures bought WKBM and renamed it WLII. In 2001, the station was bought by Univision.
