Telangana Praja Samithi

Telangana Praja Samithi (Telangan Popular Association), a political party in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, fighting for statehood for the Telangana region. TPS was founded in 1969. The founding president of the party was Madan Mohan. The main leader of the party was the firebrand former Congress leader Marri Channa Reddy.

TPS was very much the product of the violent agitations for the Telangana state at the time. On April 6 1969 TPS led a massive rally in Hyderabad. Police opened fire at the rally, and at least 50 person (mainly young students) were killed.

In the 1971 Lok Sabha elections, TPS won 10 out of 11 seats in Telangana.

However, in September 1971 TPS merged with Congress, and the Telangana agitations temporarily disappeared.

Later, another party with the same name has appeared.
