Tekkoshocon is an anime convention in the Pittsburgh Metro Area.

Tekkoshocon is run by Tekkoshocon, Inc., a non-profit organization. All staff are unpaid volunteers.

The convention typically offers video rooms, anime music video contest, masquerade / cosplay contest, hall cosplay, panels on a various of related topics, workshops, Dealers' Room, Art Show, Artists' Alley, dance, model contest, concert, anime game shows, and video gaming.

[edit] The Name

The founders of Tekkoshocon wanted to pay homage to Pittsburgh when naming this convention. The Japanese word tekkosho meaning steel mill or steel industry was combined with con an abbreviation of the word convention. Thus Tekkoshocon gained a name. Tekkoshocon is pronounced tek.KO.sho.con. Many people shorten Tekkoshocon to Tekko pronounced TEK.ko.

The first convention was held in 2003 at the Wyndham Pittsburgh Airport in Coraopolis, Pennsylvania.

Tekkoshocon 2007 will be April 13 to April 15, 2007 at the Pittsburgh Expomart & Radisson Hotel in Monroeville, Pennsylvania. This year Tekkoshocon has will be expanded to fit the entire Expomart, and numerous events will be added.
