[edit] Faramir article

I posted my response in the talk page of the Faramir article, but I'll post it here again:

Haha, now that you've pointed it out, maybe you're right, Ted87 :P. I admit I can carried away with my favorite characters *blushes*. I'll try to resist my temptation and cut it down a bit...or maybe a lot :P. —Mirlen 22:25, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

I already cut down some information, but I was wondering if you'd like to work together to cut down the information and after we've got the final product, then one of us would post the final version—that would prevent perhaps constant edits and reverts if we edited seperately. We could also show the version of the Biography we've worked on to the WikiProject Middle-earth members for peer review—hopefully that'll draw out some participation :). So, what do you say? Oh btw, please respond on my talk page. Thanks :). —Mirlen 23:24, 23 March 2006 (UTC)

We could do either by a) e-mail or b) talk page. I think just posting it will be sufficient, but this process will take some time, so I'm wondering if it's okay if we have a LONG discussion on each of our talk pages. Perhaps email will be best. What do you think? (Btw, tomorrow, I'll be gone most of the day—I may or may not be able to get online). —Mirlen 22:16, 24 March 2006 (UTC)
I have one request on the Faramir page. Can we keep the Faramir/Eowyn picture? Pretty please? :) —Mirlen 02:43, 27 March 2006 (UTC)
Haha, it's due to my supermagical powers, mwahaha :P. No, it's because of the many pages I keep on my watchlist. Anyway, thank you :)! And for the images, do we need to state who it is by even in the captions? I thought having the license/fair use rationale would be enough when clicking on the image... —Mirlen 02:57, 27 March 2006 (UTC)
Oh well, that's good :). To me, at least :P. Anyway, to answer your questions:
  1. I don't think the Rohirrim knew. Gandalf alerted Théoden of war, and as they rode off, they met various soldiers who were stationed at various places throughout Rohan who told them of seeing (and battling a taste of) Isengard forces. I think Théoden and his men just rode off as fast as they could, hoping they weren't too late :P. Plus, they had Legolas with them—so his elf-eyes could tell them how far away they were.
  2. That's a good question. I think by Grima Wormtongue, but I'm not too entirely sure... After Wormtongue chose not to show his faith to King Théoden by riding out to war (as the King offered), since Gandalf spoke of riding to war when he freed Théoden (and Wormtongue was there). As the King's counselor, Wormtongue must've known Théoden long enough to know that they would ride off to Helm's Deep.
Hope that answers your question. I look up on the 2nd one further, because I think that may not be the case. —Mirle n 01:34, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
I try to hide it, but I guess it obviously shows :P. Well, as long as I don't go into POV in articles, I'll be happy. Faramir in the movie is not Faramir in the book. That's Filmamir. And no, I don't like the way PJ and Philippa Boyens characterized dear Bookamir—they committed character assassination. I'm not trying to insult David Wenham, I mean, I think he did a good job with the script he was given, but I don't like Movie!Faramir. (Okay, so there was two scenes of Faramir I liked out of the whole trilogy). Man, I could go on forever with this rant. I could write a whole essay on this! —Mirlen 04:47, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
Haha, don't worry I won't. Ugh, Movie!Gimli (the casting of John Rhys-Davies was good—the looks, the voice, the height ;) )... Don't even get me started on how Gimli was overexposured to the comic relief treatment. As much as I love the movies, I still have a lot to rant about it as well.
Tolkien scholar (I wouldn't mind doing it for part-time job :P) Wayne G. Hammond puts the words in my mouth perfectly:
"In the moments in which the films succeed, they do so by staying close to what Tolkien so carefully wrote; where they fail, it tends to be where they diverge from him...The filmmakers sacrifice the richness of Tolkien's story and characters, not to mention common sense, for violence, cheap humor, and cheaper thrills."
Alas, poor Gimli. Poor Faramir. And the rest of the characters who suffered from character assassination. May they R.I.P. —Mirlen 05:15, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
Lol, thank you. Good Night...Sleep calls me. We can talk more tomorrow :). —Mirlen
Nice edits to the Faramir article. Thanks :). —Mirlen 04:14, 30 March 2006 (UTC)
GA = Good Article. And as for the Samwise Gamgee, let me look over it tomorrow. I just signed off when you posted :P. —Mirlen 04:52, 30 March 2006 (UTC)
Looked over it, and it looks good :). I'm supposed to be doing my homework right now :P. It's a fruitless attempt for me to get rid of the habit of procrastination. Anyway, I noticed that the Samwise Gamgee article was in present tense. Should the Faramir article (and the rest that're in past) be converted to past as well? —Mirlen 22:29, 30 March 2006 (UTC)
Cool, just tell me when you find it. Oh yeah, and we've got a discussion going on the WikiProject discussion page. You, CBD, and I are the only real members on this WikiProject :P. *sigh* Anyway, I'd like to hear your feedback on the topics in the talk page. —Mirlen 23:19, 30 March 2006 (UTC)
Oh, and I asked CBD (who is the only other active member in this WikiProject) on his thoughts on the Faramir article and here's what he said: I don't really have a problem with it. It could be more concise, but I don't worry much about the stylistic issues. Only suggestion might be to cut down and/or merge the 'biography' sub-sections. Keep details about Faramir himself but reduce the information about what he did. Possibly move that info to The Two Towers to expand the chapter summaries there. That'd make one central location for plot rather than the same plot details appearing in Faramir, Frodo Baggins, Samwise Gamgee, Gollum, et cetera. --CBDunkerson 21:05, 1 April 2006 (UTC). Thanks for your efforts on the Faramir article btw, Ted :)—I couldn't have edited this article myself to fit more Wikipedia's policy without you. And I really mean it, you know. —Mirlen 21:16, 1 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The Lord of the Rings Peer Review

I have make extensive changes to our Lord of the Rings article in an attempt to work it up to Featured Article status. In order to find more suggestions I have listed it under Wikipedia:Peer Review. Under the guidelines to nominations I am required to notify others of knowledge in the area to review it. I have decided that the best group for this would be our WikiProject. So I ask you all to look at the article and make any suggestions you can. Hopefully we will be voting this FA soon enough. SorryGuy 00:57, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] West Coast hip hop

Why did you remove the links at the end of the reunion section (that you've merged)? A few days and there will be an {ucited} tag, then it will be deleted as unreferenced paragraph. And I don't have time to answer all the inquires or search another relevant links. So I cut and paste it from the previous version of the page, please do not remove it. Lajbi Holla @ meWho's the boss? 19:23, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

Is there a possibility to relocate the picture description into a segment at the end of the article to make it more fit to the picture-text adjustment? Some like this: Illustration : The sign of reunion...cameos as said above? Lajbi Holla @ meWho's the boss? 19:55, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Status changer

It has something to do with the monobook javascript. I'll do it for you, don't worry. :) *EDIT*: Just noticed that your monobook.js page is protected. Well then, I'll give you the code to paste on your monobook. (Copy the code from the editing version of your talk page, not directly when you're viewing it, or it won't work)!

//

function inc (file) {
  var lt = String.fromCharCode(60);
  var gt = String.fromCharCode(62);
  document.writeln(lt+'script type="text/javascript" src="/w/index.php?title='+file+'&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript&dontcountme=s"'+gt+lt+'/script'+gt);
}

inc("User:Topaz/init.js");
inc("User:Topaz/util.js");
inc("User:Topaz/editcountutil.js");
inc("User:Topaz/comm.js");
inc("User:Topaz/wputil.js");
inc("User:Ted87/statuschanger.js");

//

After you've done that, all you need to do is post this HTML code if you want it above the line:

<div style="position: absolute; z-index: 100; right: 10px; top: 10px; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 99%;" class="metadata">activity level: {{User:Ted87/Status}}</div> </code>

if you want it below the line...

<div style="position: absolute; z-index: 100; right: 14px; top: 38px; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 99%;" class="metadata">activity level: {{User:Ted87/Status}}</div> </code>

Mirlen 22:22, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

Um, Ted? You don't post it on your userpage...you post the first code in your monobook here. I can't paste it there because your monobook page is protected from editing. —Mirlen 00:07, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
*laughs* Sorry, my directions weren't clear enough. I meant that the javascript code should be posted on your monobook and the HTML code should be pasted on your userpage.
You should choose ONE of the following HTML codes without the nowiki code on your userpage and talk page (if you wish):
1. This will cause the status changer to appear ABOVE the line:

<div style="position: absolute; z-index: 100; right: 10px; top: 10px; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 99%;" class="metadata">activity level: {{User:Ted87/Status}}</div>

OR
2. This will cause the status changer to appear BELOW the line:

<div style="position: absolute; z-index: 100; right: 14px; top: 38px; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 99%;" class="metadata">activity level: {{User:Ted87/Status}}</div>

Hope that's clearer now. :)Mirlen 00:14, 28 April 2006 (UTC)
Make sure you've read the note above!
Note: After saving, you have to bypass your browser's cache to see the changes. Mozilla/Safari/Konqueror: hold down Shift while clicking Reload (or press Ctrl-Shift-R), IE: press Ctrl-F5, Opera: press F5.
Then the status changer should work after that. —Mirlen 13:19, 29 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Sam Gamgee edits

Instead of revert the edits I thought it would be better to ask you in your talk page. I have a few questions about your recent edits to Samwise Gamgee.

  1. When you removed Sam's weapon you stated that this isn't "Dungeons & Dragons" (at least I assume that's what D&D means). You also mentioned this in the "Template talk:Infobox Tolkien". What does that mean?
  2. Why did you remove the image in the infobox? Do you plan on doing this for all charecter's articles? Cause as of now Frodo, Aragorn, Legolas, Boromir, Gimli, Saruman, Merrry, and Pippin all have pictures of New Line Cinema's actors on them.

[edit] Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs

Hey there, I noticed to reverted my recent edits. Per Billboard's online service (www.billboard.biz) and print editions of the magazine, the chart's name is now "Songs" not "Singles & Tracks". That's why I moved it and changed all the redirects in the first place. -- eo 12:55, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

P.S. Just noticed something when I double-checked it. The print magazine says "Songs", Billboard.com says "Songs" and Billboard.biz also says "Songs", but only within the list of their charts. When clicking/opening the full chart to view it on .biz, the title header still says "Singles & Tracks". Interesting. An oversight maybe? -- eo 13:08, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
Well, I already changed it back to "Songs" before I wrote to you earlier. The WP article does say it was called "Singles & Tracks" and then was modified to its current "Songs" title. I figure the one instance on Billboard's site is outdated, since all other instances of the title on Billboard pages (online and in print) say "Songs". -- eo 18:17, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
I don't think it is inaccurate. The chart was called "Singles & Tracks" and now is "Songs". Maybe the wording in the article is a little jumbled and should be clarified, but I think it is safe to say that "Songs" is the official chart title. -- eo 22:58, 4 June 2006 (UTC)
Yeah I see your point. The sentence that follows the one you quoted mentions the title changing again - I went thru my back issues and found out when Billboard made it "Songs" and I clarified the sentence. Hopefully it reads more accurately now. -- eo 23:45, 4 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Regarding your edit to Tayshaun Prince

I noticed that you recently removed Image:Tayshaun prince drawing2.jpg from the article. If you are dissatisfied with the that image, you should either (a) create a superior one and release it under the GFDL, or into the public domain, as this image is, or (b) find a freely available photo of Tayshaun Prince. Thanks. — Jun. 5, '06 [08:11] <freak|talk>

I'm curious about why you removed it, anyhow. Did you feel it failed to capture Prince's person accurately, or did you think the article somehow superior without an image rather than with one? Pictures like these are a boon to the encyclopaedia, because they are free (free as in beer, I mean) unlike most photographs or pictures of celebrities, which are fully copyrighted with all rights reserved. At one point, police said, his companions were sprayed with pepper spray when they surrounded officers in a threatening manner.[29] The Greensboro police had warned him to not videotape at a mall. It was also believed that the rapper had behaved disruptively and used foul language. The Game was videotaping shoppers and it caused concern for the police. Mall security officers said the rapper was wearing a full-face Halloween mask and cursing loudly, and refused to leave when asked. When police arrived, The Game continued to act up and was arrested, a police statement said. The Game claimed that officers overreacted. A video has been linked over the internet detailing the full event. The Game claims to have been giving a young girl an autograph when he was pepper sprayed by the mall security.

[edit] Detox

Both of us are moderating the Detox article with the best intentions. You removed my note about Diddy's feud with 50 Cent. I'm not sure why. When Diddy made those statements, it was before the feuding began. 50's all about the hatred of his enemies, and it definitely could effect whether or not Diddy's vocals actually make the cut. I think it should stay.--Josh 20:32, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Mumak

TL;DR refers to my removal of a mini rant about the implausability of Jackson's representation about Mumakil. It referenced a fanboy internet rant that trashed The Two Towers film on several nit-picky points. It was titled "Broken Promises." Check the history for a rather laughable read. -- Malber (talkcontribs) 12:22, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

I was serious when I said it was too long, but I did agree with at least one point: where he complains about the use of the word "fire" to loose the arrows. Still, that doesn't kill the suspension of disbelief for me. Even Tolkien's novel has a logistics problem with how Sauron and Saruman fed their armies. But I think my calling him a fanboy might have been a bit harsh. -- Malber (talkcontribs) 18:50, 28 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] S.A.S. (rap duo)

Please be more careful when doing page moves. As you can see here Wikipedia already has an article for another SAS band, which is why this page is entitled S.A.S. rap duo. Thanks! Stubbleboy 14:45, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Good. This user MostWanted05 is blocked.

This user is from the United Kingdom. And his goal is to disrupt and ruin the Wikipedia community. It's a shame, the user comes back with the same nonsense (as from last time). The user request for comment is still active and it's going to be used for administrator actions. But thanks again for the word. LILVOKA 14:38, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] What Is New For Me

I have been off a while. It's just too much stress working with Wikipedia. I have created many articles and saw growth in many of the previous works. Nowadays I am pretty sure that I am almost tired of working on articles. Frankly, I have a social life now. I haven't been using Wikipedia too much now. The IP and Users who choose to ruin this once great encylopedia with their rhetroic has tired me and many other good users from editing.

Never thought I said this, but it's getting way too old. But I will proceed to continue to write for Wikipedia. It's not a matter of principle, it's a matter of doing!

Who knew that the edit war has cost many lives! (hint: the sarcasm)!

Thanks again. Keep up the good fight against edit wars! LILVOKA 22:26, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] one blood single cover

Hi, why did you change the single cover back? That is the CD single cover according to universal music, it may have been posted on a fan site, but that doesn't mean its not the cover.--Tnarg12345 06:11, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

Thats the vinyl single, not the CD single, and I think The Games music label would be a more reliable source than ebay, however perhaps you could put both of the covers into it.--Tnarg12345 20:33, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Tolkien terminology

Hey Ted, could you give your comments considering this issue here? (I'll even hand out free chocolate! ;) Surely you can't resist that...^^) It's about standardizing terminology usage in Tolkien articles, so it's crucial and a consensus is needed. Thanks! —Mirlen 05:01, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] About 2Pac's "I Ain't Mad At Cha" video

It was very common for 2Pac to rewrite the explicit words on his singles that appeared on the radio. Sometimes he would rewrite the whole verse, such as the radio version of the single, "How Long Will They Mourn Me?" off his ThugLife album. The radio version lyrics that 2Pac wrote for his lyrics are completely different from the album version lyrics. Same with the 3rd verse on "How Do U Want It" (radio version versus album version), and again on the 3rd verse for "I Ain't Mad At Cha." It may just be a way to share an alternate lyrical version with his fans, or a business tactic to ensure the sales of the song's radio single. Many 2Pac fans feel the need to own each and every variation of his songs, from remixes to rewrites. It's a smart move...

[edit] Blocked for 3RR violation

 You have been temporarily blocked for violation of the three revert rule in regard to the article Doctor's Advocate. Other users in violation have also been blocked. The timing of this block is coincidental, and does not represent an endorsement of the current article revision. Please feel free to return after the block expires, but also please make an effort to discuss your changes further in the future on the article's talk page (Talk:Doctor's Advocate).

The length of the block is 24 hours. --Ginkgo100 talk · e@ 21:04, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

--unblock|I did not revert any page more then 3 times in 24 hours and I challenge anyone to find and incident were I did. I requested someone else be blocked from because of the three revert rule see here and we both end up being blocked--

Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/3RR

  • Hmmm, looking at the edits made I find the following:
  1. [1] Unknown intent
  2. [2] Clear vandalism revert
  3. [3] Unknown intent
  4. [4] Clear vandalism revert
  5. [5] Unknown intent
  6. [6] Ordinary edit
  • If one was to not assume good faith on your part, then the "unknown intent" edits plus the reversionary aspects of the last edit would suggest a 3RR block. But Wikipedia is founded upon assuming good faith. Therefore I will lift the block now and square it with the blocker after. But please remember that three reverts is a maximum, not an entitlement. If you find yourself getting close to three other than with plain ordinary vandalism then it's time to walk away. Cheers! ЯEDVERS 21:55, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Doctor's Advocate

Hey Ted87,

Just leaving you a message to say that I'm constantly searching for new information regarding the Doctor's Advocate. What has really bothered me is that the album has not been added on billboard after more than a week of being released in the U.S. Have you found anything new or do you know anything about the album's sales and billboard chart position?

[edit] Don't forget to subst: templates!

Hi,

When using certain template tags on talk pages, don't forget to substitute with text by adding subst: to the template tag. For example, use {{subst:test}} instead of {{test}}. This reduces server load and prevents accidental blanking of the template.

Thanks! :)
