Technohead

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Technohead were Pop / Gabba husband and wife duo Michael Wells and Lee Newman. Having met at art school in 1985 they formed a loving and creative partnership that lasted until Newman’s death from cancer on 4 August 1995. Their track I Wanna Be A Hippy reached number 6 in the UK and number 1 in both The Netherlands and Germany and the song also achieved at least one gold record. They had several aliases, including GTO, Greater Than One, Church of Extacy, John & Julie, Tricky Disco, (under which they had a UK Top 20 hit in 1990), and Technohead, in which they released an album entitled Headsex.

After Lee's death Michael Wells issued two further singles under the Technohead name:

  • Happy Birthday (UK # 18)
  • Banana-Na-Na (UK #64)

After this Wells abandoned the moniker for single releases and started recording music under the names S.O.L.O. & Signs ov Chaos.
