[edit] Future Plans
After the ground breaking ceremony in September this year, the work has already begun for Tech Mahindra's ambitious mega software centre in Hinjewadi near Pune. Spread over 25 acres, the new Hinjewadi campus of Tech Mahindra will be capable of housing more than 7,000 software engineers and will offer video conferencing facilities, training centres, food courts, a gymnasium and a sports complex. The campus will also include over a million square feet of residential space, with a selfcontained residential park consisting of 300 to 500 apartments (depending on the size) and 100 row houses. More land will be acquired for residential development in future if the demand persists.
Tech Mahindra is investing Rs 250 crore in its new campus; for the residential facilities it will act as a facilitator. On behalf of the employees it will acquire land from MIDC, adjacent to its software campus. The entire land will be developed for construction, right now it is a semi-hilly terrain, completed with underground laying of pipelines for sewage and water, cables for electricity and telecom.

After this , employees cooperatives will begin the construction of residential blocks. For the sake of uniformity and coherence, the architecture and design will be coordinated by a body with members drawn from the employees and management. Tech Mahindra will also provide for loans for construction, if required, for which it has earmarked Rs 50 crore, pointed out Gurnani. The software park and the development of the residential area is expected to be completed by the end of 2006. Upon completion, Tech Mahindra will move its entire software development team of 7000 people here and utilise the facility in Pune town for the BPO operation.
To make the township self sufficient, MIDC will build roads, schools, hospitals, parks and play grounds. The Hinjewadi industrial park will thus be developed as a model township jointly by a government body, private corporates and individuals. Surely, the Karnataka government and the IT giants in and around Bangalore need to make a note of Tech Mahindra’s integrated plan and think of doing something similar for the sake of silicon valley.
