Over the years TechSpot has been featured and mentioned in several newspapers and recognized printed and online publications including: PC World Magazine, Maximum PC, PC Magazine, Tech Republic, Computer Gaming World Magazine, ZDNet.com, Anandtech, The Register, among others.
[edit] History
TechSpot was originally named 'Pure Rendition', back in early 1998 the website was hosted on a free website account on FortuneCity, receiving no more than a few hundred visitors and dedicated to report news on then popular 3d accelerators based on Rendition Verite graphics processors.
A few years later the site was renamed to '3D Spotlight'. As the name implied the site no longer reported on Rendition chipsets only, but also its coverage was on the 3d gaming scene as a whole. The late 90s saw the revolution of 3d graphics and audio in the PC, from 3dfx Voodoo graphics, to nowadays' graphics giants NVIDIA and ATI. The website went through a number of redesigns through the years, it was updated much more often and started to receive visitors in the thousands every day.
It wasn't until 2001 that the website was named "TechSpot". TechSpot was born built upon the success of 3D Spotlight, offering an even broader scope on its reporting, and now receiving millions of users every month.
There is a screenshot gallery portraying some of the site's past designs, which clearly gives an outlook of web design trends from the late 90s to the present.
TechSpot in Spanish opened doors in late June 2006.
[edit] Site Structure
TechSpot has gone through drastic changes since its inception. The first sections to open were the review and tweaking guides sections. TechSpot did not always possess a community forum either. This was added in the early years and currently consists of several thousand registered users.
In recent years the site has added other regularly updated sections such as utility downloads and drivers. Offering a combined catalog of over 8,000 downloads from both databases.
