"Teary Eyed" was the second single from rapper Missy Elliott's 2005 album The Cookbook and was released in September 2006 (see 2006 in music). The single saw a change in direction for Missy as the song is an R&B ballad, with Missy singing throughout.
In the U.S. the song did not chart on the Billboard Hot 100 and became one of her most unsuccessful singles to date. In the UK it was released on September 26, 2006 but it was also unsuccessful there, missing top 40 singles chart, peaking at #47. This was her first solo single to do so. The failure of "Teary Eyed" could be partly due to the fact the video for the single was only released a week before the single was released in stores. Due to the failure of the single to chart in the top 40 in the UK, it was quickly withdrawn from radio playlists.
