Tears is a song written by Yoshiki Hayashi originally recorded by X Japan for release as a single in 1993. The song debuted #1 on the Oricon charts.
The song starts with 30 seconds of violins, after that Toshi's voice appears, singing one of the most famous ballads of X Japan. The song it's divided in two parts, the first is in Japanese, and only with violins and piano, then the second contains some parts in English and some in Japanese, with the guitars of hide and Pata, the bass of Heath and the piano and drums of Yoshiki. There's one version of the song that it's the one released in a single, and then another version released with the Dahlia that contains a poem written by Yoshiki in the end.
Despite its fame, Tears was only performed a few times live. Two were for the Japanese TV program, Music Station, and the other version was a solo by Toshi in the Dahlia Tour 1995. But there was another major version live, this was performed in the X Japan Returns live just before Kurenai, at the end of the song Yoshiki sang the poem.
In 2004, the song was used as a theme song of South Korean film "Windstruck" and the song was a first Japanese song in Korean film history.
