Team Wellington was formed in 2004 by a consortium of Wellington soccer clubs.

In the inaugural season of the NZFC Team Wellington performed below expectations, finishing sixth.

In 2005 the team continues to under-perform. However, attendance at Newtown Park remain healthy (in New Zealand Soccer terms) averaging about 1000.
