Team Carbon

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Carbon is a professional MLG Halo 2 4v4 team. Currently the top Halo team in the world, comprised of Karma, GH057ayame, Gandhi, and ShockWav3. Their current roster was not completely formed until MLG's roster deadline at the event in Orlando 2006. They ended Final Boss's 8-game winning streak that dated back to the first Halo 2 MLG event in 2005. Carbon beat them at the final three events, including Orlando, the New York Playoffs and the National Championships in Las Vegas. At the National Championships, Carbon finished 1st and won $100,000 as a team.[1] Carbon have a strong rivalry with MLG teams Final Boss and Str8 Rippin. USA Network scheduled an MLG show to broadcast weekly that features Team Carbon every week from November to December 2006.[2]

[edit] Coach

XxX, long-time participant in MLG events, coaches Team Carbon during MLG events.

XxX started playing Halo: CE competitively way back in 2004 at MLG Atlanta up until the National Championships where he says his team barely lost and finished 3rd. He has teamed with players such as Sergio, KillerN, Zyos, Tupac, Mack, and Detach with whom he advanced top 8 at the events he entered. He teamed with GH057ayame, IIPisToLII, and Levi at MLG LA Western CC and placed 4th overall. After the championship, GH057ayame and Pistol searched to find better teammates and formed Team Ex. So, XxX got back with his original teammates at MLG Washington D.C. where they finished in 22nd place.

In an interview with MLG, XxX said he watched Team Carbon play in the 2005 Finals and 2006 season opener and saw some things they were lacking in such as communication, weapon respawn timing and use of power ups. However, XxX saw potential because Carbon were still placing top 3 by overpowering most of their opponents. XxX said coaching was more natural for him to do because he was used to being a team leader from the events he competed in 2004. He claims that at times it was hard to get a word in because the team constantly communicates during games now. During the All-Star game at MLG Las Vegas National CC, he got a chance to coach some of the other players such as Ogre 1 and Ogre 2 along with his own Ghandi and Shockwav3, and led the Eastern Roster to a 6-2 victory. So, he believes its possible for him to be as effective coaching Final Boss as he is coaching Carbon. He moved the gaming seat of notorious trash talker, CbN Gandhi, closer to the other team to increase intimidation. XxX also felt like Strongside was off the objective too much. He initiated the possibility of aquiring his former teammate, Ex GH057ayame in place of Strongside. Coach XxX thought StrongSide would be better off on Team Legendz because Strongside did not seem to like the pressure that came with being on a top 3 team in Carbon. He claims GH057ayame is more vocal and able to focus better than StrongSide. Team Carbon's original goal was just to beat Str8 Rippin, and XxX did not expect to beat Final Boss until they knocked them out of the winners bracket in orlando.

[edit] Historical Transactions

In July 2006, Team Carbon's newest member Strongside filed for free agency. Most likely Team Carbon aquired GH057ayame (Team Ex leader and Scion PotY Nominee) to replace Strongside out of desperation to place higher in tournaments. Strongside aftwerwards joined Legendz for the remainder of the 2006 season and joined Final Boss for the 2007 season.
