"Tea for One" is the last track on English rock band Led Zeppelin's 1976 album Presence. It starts out fast with interplay between Jimmy Page and John Bonham before going into the sotto voce groove. The song from here on out is a slow blues epic that deals with homesickness and loneliness. Much of this is felt by Robert Plant, who recalls sitting alone in a New York Hotel during a U.S. tour drinking "tea for one".
The song recalls an earlier Zeppelin song in sound and style, "Since I've Been Loving You". This comes from the desire of the band to return to their roots in order to see what has changed with the band since they were younger and more innocent. In Jimmy Page's opinion, this song was the only time the band repeated itself.
In 2006, blues guitarist Joe Bonamassa had covered this song on his album You and Me. Incidentally, the late John Bonham's son Jason Bonham played drums on this song as well as the entire album.
[edit] Trivia
- A main reason they stayed out of England to tour and record was to avoid the taxes.
