{{deprecated template}} notifies users that a given template has been replaced by a different one. This is useful when usage is different (so a redirect won't work) or you'd like to reduce the number of redirects (which makes bot parsing more difficult).

Whenever possible, it should replace the deprecated template's content entirely, so that someone using the template will see the message.

Normal usage categorises templates to Deprecated templates.

{{tdeprecated|old|new|parameter}}
{{tdeprecated|old|new|<nowiki>parameter|fuu</nowiki>}}

The template {{old}} is deprecated. Please use {{new}} instead.

The template {{old}} is deprecated. Please use {{new|parameter}} instead.

Adding the 'date' parameter subcategorises the template to Templates deprecated since December 2006.

Why is this template in Category:Redirect templates? It's not for use on a redirect page, is it? –RHolton ≡– 02:50, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Questions about the new Tdeprecated format

What is the advantage of categorizing deprecated templates by month? We'll just be left with a lot of monthly categories, possibly many only holding one or two templates.

How does one use the new format for templates that are replaced with non-template solutions? For example, {{qif}}. The old version allowed free text to describe replacements. Pagra shtak 17:48, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
