Talk:Taxidermy
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Taxidermy is the worst thing you can do to an animal after it dies! What is wrong with you sick people?! That is disgusting and who would want stuffed roadkill on their mantle?! I've been involved in some questionably legal things before and I'm not afraid to do anything to a taxidermist.
- Who would want stuffed roadkill on their mantle?! Well, I would, for one. :) cma 09:16, 28 November 2005 (UTC)
Well, me too, and I could hook you up. I might even leave your mouth open because that's the only way people would know you! jdw
The way I see it, taxidermy is a way of retaining the beauty of an animal once it has died. As long as the animal isn't killed specifically for the purpose, I have no problem with it. papillion.

- basically I find the whole idea bad taste. my grandfather had a small stuffed squirrel or something and I always found it disgusting and actually bad taste for decoration. that, and it's a bit atrocious.
Well I'm a woman and I have a cabin theme in my house and I think these animals are beautiful and should be preserved. I'm actually thinking of becoming an taxidermist myself. God put these animals on this earth for us to eat. So why not after we eat the meat, preserve the beauty of the animal when it was alive!!!!!! Bets
most taxidermists (British ones certainly) are animal lovers and would never kill anything in order to make it look alive again. they want to preserve the beauty of the thing not cut it's life short! it is an art and performed with great respect, love and fascination for all living things, not to say skill. when it's done well it is a great way of getting close to and appreciating animals you wouldn't always be able to. the moron above who suggests they're 'not afraid to do anything to a taxidermist' should get an education and stop spouting ignorance. clearly someone who likes to stop others doing things rather than actually doing anything of any worth themselves. tell me, what exactly would you be prepared to do to a taxidermist? hurt them in some way? why don't you put your thug mentality to some use and go after people who are actually doing someone/thing harm? or you could just try to get some joy out of life...
[edit] Dioramas
I have heard that some people put together dioramas by putting a stuffed animal in a realistic depiction of it's natural habitat. Is this true? I think that the article should have some pictures of one. By the way, how does someone put one together? I would like to try one.
yes dioramas are probably the most common display of taxidermy, at least in England. visit http://www.scottish-taxidermy.co.uk/ or http://www.taxidermy.co.uk/ for some examples. they make the rocks out of papier mache normally (as you can't drill through rocks easily to insert the wires) and use real twigs and moss.
What is ataxidermy collector called? A taxidermist also? What?
If one does not exist, a word must be introduced to define a collector of taxidermy - I propose `taxidermor'. Confirmation will come from inclusion in the Oxford Dictionary. Meanwhile, taxidermatologists who contribute to the Wikipedia may respond to this proposition.
