Caption:Dead animals in Tawilla – Animal carcasses rotting near the burned and looted village of Tawilla, west of El Fasher in North Darfur. On February 27 at 6:00 AM, Jingaweit militia attacked Tawilla, displacing nearly all of the town’s 14,000 residents along with 9,000 previously displaced persons who had sought shelter in the town. According to some of the few residents who remained in Tawilla following the attack, the Jingaweit killed 17 people in the town and 68 people in surrounding areas. In addition, residents reported that the militias raped approximately 100 women and abducted approximately 150 women and 200 children.
