Task Force Uruzgan

The Dutch ISAF-operation Task Force Uruzgan (TFU) is part of the international taskforce in Afghanistan and is leading one of the 4 Provincial Reconstruction Teams at the south of the country. 1,200 - 1,400 Dutch military, mandated by the Dutch Parliament at Februari, 2006, will try to maintain order and safety in the province Uruzgan for two years. They will try to build up a political and economical infrastructure. Another task is to train the Afghan police.

The unit is located at two bases: the largest is in Kamp Holland in Tarin Kowt, the capital of the province Uruzgan. The other base is sixty kilometer west in Deh Rahwod, with 200 personnel.

The TFU is under command of colonel Theo Vleugels and consists of a Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT), a battlegroup and a air detachment. The battlegroup consists of infantry with armored vehicles and artillery Howitzers, and is based around 12 Infanteriebataljon. Elements of 44 Pantserinfanteriebataljon and 42 Tankbataljon are also based as part of the battlegroup. If needed they can rely on support of F-16's and Cougars and AH-64D Apache helicopters of the Air force.

The PRT is working together with 480 troops from Australia and soldiers of the Afghan National Army and Afghan police officers.
