[edit] Humayn Azad

Tarif, nice work there with the book lists. Now, do you have the ISBN numbers for the books? If so, beside every book, please list the ISBN numbers in the following way : ISBN followed by the number without any spaces. Thanks. --Ragib 20:01, 5 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Reply: language movement

Tarif, nice work. I forgot to reply to you, so doing that below:

you talked about scholar references.now bashir al helal is a bangla language expert, ex director of bangla academy.he also researched a lot about a lot about languase movement and in his book their is no information which is without a proof.he also actually wrote the language movement article on bangla pedia.so would he be a scholar. Please confirm me this.

It is perfectly ok to cite Bashir Al-Helal's scholarly book as a reference. Just to clarify, when you cite from his book to back a reference, please add the page numbers, from which you have added the info.

another thing is in the dailies of that time a lot about language movement is published which also includes in other books.in that case from where shall i refer from?one more thing.

Referring to dailies of the period is also just fine, simply add the date and the name of the daily.

how can i john the bangladeshi wikipedian list. .you will be glad to know that i am editing from mobile.i was sick for a few days and couldn't contribute on language movement much. I hope this will start again tomorrow. I will try unfollow your tips and wonderful guideline.and to know how glad i an about you plz read the previous message.thanks a lot.goodbye. tarif ezaz(sorry, haven't sign in yet.)

Add your name to Wikipedia:WikiProject Bangladesh.

Keep up the good work. --Ragib 17:42, 8 August 2006 (UTC)

Great work!! I've been busy in the Bangla wikipedia, so haven't given a look into the Language movement article, but I'll look into it during the weekend.

Do you have any photos from the books/magazines? Basically, any photo taken before 1956 can be used freely, as the copyright law of Pakistan makes images go into Public domain after 50 years. So, if you can scan the photos, or somehow get them, we can easily use them here.

Thanks, and keep up the good work. --Ragib 21:30, 6 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Even better articles

Hi! See my edits to Asif Hossain Khan for ideas how to create even better articles. Punkmorten 18:49, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

Tarif, just a short note on formatting, please use a space after commas or full stops (periods). Thanks. --Ragib 21:15, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

Tarif, another idea, did you ever look into the "Did you know?" section in the main page? That lists articles created in the last 5 days, which are good, and has an interesting fact. You might look into the process at WP:DYK and think about nominating this article. Of course, you need to expand the article, and add more references. Think about this. --Ragib 05:09, 5 October 2006 (UTC)

someone please tell of how I ask for the nomination of an article for the "Did you know section.thanks.Tarif Ezaz Bangladesh 16:47, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

Tarif, first you have to decide on an important fact about the article you created. The fact must be expressable in 1 sentence, with a limit of 200 words. The article must also be referenced (your current article is ok), and npov (your current article needs some rewording in this case, which I shall do soon.). The sentence in question should be in the form of (Do you know) "... that <insert interesting fact here>?". Once you decide on that, add it to the nomination page at Template_talk:Did_you_know. Thanks, and good luck. --Ragib 16:51, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
The suggestion sounds ok, I'll look into it. I'll also copyedit the article pretty soon. Thanks. --Ragib 17:16, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

I found an image, lowered the resolution, and used it in the article under fair use provisions. It would be great if you could find a freely usable photo. Thanks. --Ragib 19:59, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] DYK

Updated DYK query On 6 October 2006, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Asif Hossain Khan, which you created. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the "Did you know?" talk page.

Tarif, congrats on getting your first DYK. Now you bask in the glory of satisfaction, and in the same spirit, write even more interesting articles. --Ragib 00:19, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re:

Hi Tarif, Thanks for your message. I do remember your original mail about the language movement, and that definitely is a priority for us. We do have some time before February, so if we can get done with it by December, I think it might get selected for 21st february.

I will be in BD in December, and can work with local wikipedians. I'll be in Dhaka a large part of my time in BD, and hope to get some good shots of the Shahid Minar and other things.

I hope by now you can see why people are so enthusiastic about writing in wikipedia. See, living in BD, you can't really expect any of your website to be visible to millions of people. BUT, wikipedia gives you this opportunity. You worked hard for this, and now it came into DYK and was seen by many many people today. I can bet that no "Essay" you ever wrote gained this much coverage.

I'll mail you with some more DYK ideas. These ideas will be related to the language movement, so as you work on these, you'd be able to add to the language movement page itself.

As I always say, "keep up the good work". :)

[edit] Sofiur Rahman

I have proposed this article for deletion. If you disagree, please remove the tag and we can discuss the matter on the article's talk page. Brianyoumans 12:47, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re:Prod

Tarif, As of now, the article on Sofiur Rahman is almost empty, without any assertion of his notability. This is of course, unlike Salam/Barkat, who were more prominent. If you feel this proposed deletion is unjust, you are free to remove the prod tag, but then there is a chance that it will be taken to AfD (Articles for deletion). To save the article, you need to add more content, more assertions of notability here. Thanks. --Ragib 19:15, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] AfD Nomination: Sofiur Rahman

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! We welcome and appreciate your contributions, but all Wikipedia articles must meet our criteria for inclusion (see What Wikipedia is not and Deletion policy). Since it does not seem to me that Sofiur Rahman meets these criteria, I have started a discussion about whether this article should be kept or deleted.

Your opinion on whether this article meets the inclusion criteria is welcome. Please contribute to the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Sofiur Rahman. Don't forget to add four tildes (~~~~) at the end of each of your comments to sign them.

Discussions such as these usually last five days. In the meantime, you are free to edit the content of the article. Please do not remove the "articles for deletion" template (the box at the top). When the discussion has concluded, an administrator will consider all comments and decide whether or not to delete the article. --  Netsnipe  ►  18:10, 10 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Help request

How can I understand which level of english that i rated to?

I'm afraid I don't understand your question. Could you clarify, please? -- Merope Talk 20:17, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
You can look at Wikipedia:Babel/Levels for a detailed explanation of the different levels and then decide where you fit in. If you want to put the English userbox on your userpage, you can use {{User en-x}}, where "x" is a number between 0 and 5. You might also want to put your native language on your userpage: the userbox for Bengali is {{user bn}}. Cheers! -- Merope Talk 18:39, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] school / college

Hey, I see a red link on your user page!! Why don't you start the article on your school and/or colleges too? --Ragib 07:42, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Portal:Bangladesh

Hi Tarif - a couple of months ago I had actually tried to make it a featured portal but I couldn't spare enough time (I'm presently running 4 other portals!). If you like, we can restart that effort. As for running a portal, I suggest you speak to Ambuj Saxena, who is running Portal:India single-handedly. One tip I can give you is to establish a realistic routine for updating that you can follow - as Bangladesh FAs are not numerous, I suggest you update the portal only once a week. Rama's arrow 22:03, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

Reply to your message - I'm not Bangladeshi and dont speak/read/write Bengali but if its important news and minor fixes, I probably could take a look once in a while. I'm not the right man for the job, but if you need other help with articles/sources I'd be willing to help.22:13, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
Hi Tarif,
To make it into a featured portal, first make sure you have enough time to devote to it. Managing portals can be very demanding as, if left un-updated, red-link start to appear. Before going for FPoC, make sure you have at least 4-5 articles and images to rotate. Create an archive of old articles, images and news that appeared on the main page. I would also recommend a weekly rotation schedule, though monthly rotation is also acceptable. The DYKs and news can be added as and when they come. Also balance the two columns of the portal page. Work on these and I will give more suggestions when these are done. — Ambuj Saxena (talk) 19:01, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Monica Yunus

Hi. The posessive singular of nouns, including proper names, is made with an 's. See the very first rule in the classic guide to good style The Elements of Style by Strunk & White. Examples: for the singular Yunus write Monica Yunus's website with the "s", but for the plural Yunuses (i.e. all the members of the Yunus family) write the Yunuses' home, without the "s". Cheers! [edit] {{helpme}}

how can I create an archive in a Portal? For example if I want to create an archive of DYK in Portal:Bangladesh how should I create the archive section?Tarif Ezaz Bangladesh 10:53, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

Create a new page called Portal:Bangladesh/DYK/Archive, for instance; copy or move all the information that you need to the archive page by copying-and-pasting the edit box, writing what you're doing in the edit summary. --ais523 11:27, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

how can I know exact number of my contributions except manually counting from 'my contribution'?Tarif from Bangladesh 13:27, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

There are various edit counters available; see Wikipedia:WikiProject edit counters for a list. (At the moment Interiot's Tool1 seemss popular; I've also created my own edit counter.) --ais523 13:35, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Bangladesh Portal

Hello Tarif,

I am sorry, but I do not know much about Bangladesh, or its culture, so I don't think I could easily contribute much, but thank you very much for asking.

[edit] {{helpme}}

After adding archive to the featured picture section of the Portal:Bangladesh all templates came in one line including those at the bottom. How can balance it in two lines.Tarif from Bangladesh 12:07, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

It looks fine to me, but one problem may be because you haven't closed your <div> tag; you need a matching </div> tag at the end of the code for including the archive. --ais523 12:59, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hi

Hi... Definitely some of the articles on Bengal can and should be put on the Bangladesh Portal. In recent memory of the ones that I have written I think Hiralal Sen would fit very well in this category since he was born in what is now Bangladesh. Take care. Antorjal

[edit] Rq's help

I know this may be out of your range, but do you know anything about Pamheiba (Garib Nawaj) and Bhagya Chandra of Manipur? I found Banglapedia article here but am wondering if you (perhaps?) have access to Bengali (I cant read/write/speak Bengali) literature and or books on Manipuri history.Bakaman Bakatalk 00:59, 10 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] {{helpme}}

How can I move the templates of Portal:Bangladesh so that I can create two columns. For example, its not possible to place the templates of news, selected article, featured picture in one column. It would be fair and resonable if it could be placed in two columns. Please help. I do not know much about the technique.Tarif from Bangladesh 13:03, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

One way to do columns is by using the columns templates. You write everything for the left column first, then everything for the right column, separating the columns with templates.
Click on 'edit' for this section to see how it's done. Hope that helps! --ais523 13:10, 17 November 2006 (UTC)
