[edit] Boxing career
Still fighting after being eliminated from reality tv show The Contender, where having been placed on the West Coast Team, he fought Juan de la Rosa and lost a close disputed decision. De La Rosa bowed out of the tournament of contenders from injuries sustained in his fight against Tarick. Tarick felt he should have been brought back on the show by default; however, this wasn't the case. A vote was taken by the remaining fighters in the contender house and another fighter was voted back in place of Juan De La Rosa. However Tarick was voted back as a fan favorite by America to fight in "The Contender" finale at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas.
Tarick held the NABO Super Middleweight Title from March 1997, and rose through the rankings being rated #4 in the world by the WBO and 6th by the WBC. He was offered a fight for the world championship against Joe Calzaghe. Fight was cancelled due to an injury Joe Calzaghe sustained in training. He never got the shot at the championship again after losing to journeyman Kippy Warren in front of a sold out Detroit crowd. "The Contender" came calling for Tarick in 2005. It was an opportunity of a lifetime and Tarick made the most of it. He carried himself well on the show and was even voted back as a fan favorite in The Contender finale.
