Taper pin
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Taper pins are tools used for enlarging holes usually for mechanical, Machine Tapers or body modification purposes. They are typically designed as long metal rods with one end having a slightly larger diameter than the other. In body modification, tapers are usually used for expanding piercing in order to accommodate larger gauge ear rings or plugs. They are not commonly used directly as ear rings, but rather for assisting in the placement of rings or plugs. However, variations in taper designs can be intended for common usage as ear rings. Most tapers are constructed from surgical steel, but can also be found in acrylic or polished stone. Most of these items are also sold with o-rings, which are small rubber bands to help keep piercings in place.
