Tanfield, Durham

Tanfield is a village in County Durham, England. It is generally counted as part of the town of Stanley and is the location of Tanfield Railway. Tanfield is in fact two separate villages: Tanfield Lea located at the bottom of a valley is the modern part of the village with no buildings older than one hundred years old. Tanfield Village is a much older place, located on the opposite hill of the valley to Stanley.
Pop star Brian Ferry once lived in Tanfield, and apart from Tanfield Hall and the Church, very few of the buildings in Tanfield date beyond the 1970s.
