Tana Moon, a Metropolis reporter, was Superboy's first love, introduced as part of the Reign of the Supermen storyline.

When the young clone of Superman, later known as Kon-El escaped from Project Cadmus, trying to find acknowledgment from the press he came to the Daily Planet, telling his story to Lois Lane. He then saw Tana, enraged because her young age prevented her to get a job as a journalist. Attracted to her like Superman was to Lois Lane, he accepted to give her the exclusive on his history. Tana so gained a role as anchorwoman of the Galaxy Network Broadcasting of Vincent Edge, for a while using her charm on the young and still immature clone to push him into the more spectacular part of superhero business, always reporting his feats. So she was able to rise in fame as one of the well appreciated and requested reporters in Metropolis, on the par of Lois or Cat Grant.

Eventually she parted ways from Superboy, as a way to gain acceptance and fame as her own woman, not only as the Superboy reporter, but only to find him again when the superpowered guy started living in Hawaii. After a while they rekindled her professional relation, which eventually blossomed into true love, even if strained by the lack of maturity of Superboy, always in pursuing of a more excting life between battles and girls.

Superboy split up with Tana while he and Knockout were on the run from the law, but once he saw KO's true colors and brought her in, he came back to Tana, who eagerly took him back. Unfortunately, Tana shortly thereafter gave crucial information to Amanda Spence, who was posing as a harmless reporter. The info helped Spence and the Agenda capture the Kid and create the clone Match.

Tana struggled to keep alive their love, but left him again, only to find herself embroiled in Superboy's battle with the evil cloning consortium known as The Agenda, she was electrocuted by the vengeful Amanda Spence. Tana's death marked the end of innocence for Superboy, leading him to a more responsible life.
