Tan Choo Leng

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tan Choo Leng (Simplified Chinese: 陈子玲; pinyin: Chén Zǐlíng) is the wife of Goh Chok Tong, who was the second Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore from November 26, 1990 to August 12, 2004 and Senior Minister.

She completed Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from the University of Singapore (now known as the National University of Singapore), and is currently an Advocate and Solicitor for M/s Wong Partnership.

She has also given her support to many charities, notably being a former patron of NKF of Singapore. She became infamous for commenting that the S$600,000 paid out to the then CEO of NKF, T.T Durai yearly was considered peanuts, compared to the hundreds of millions that the NKF manages. This remark was subsequently met with extreme negative reactions from Singaporeans.

She stepped down as patron after the board and CEO resigned under public pressure on July 14, 2005. Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong later told the press in a politically shrewd move, that Mrs. Goh regretted making that comment. [1]
