Tammy doll

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Tammy Doll was a 12" fashion doll introduced by the Ideal Toy Corporation in the year 1962. Advertised as "The Doll you Love to Dress" Tammy's major appeal and purpose in child's play included modeling the many well-constructed outfits that Ideal provided for the doll. Tammy is portrayed as a young female teenager, more of a "girl next door" as opposed to the more cosmopolitan image of Mattel's Barbie, or American Character's Tressy doll.

Dolls released by Ideal that comprised "Tammy's Family" included; Mom, Dad, brother Ted and Tammy's little sister Pepper and younger brother Pete. Other "Tammy's Family" companion dolls included Dodi, Salty, Misty and Montgomery Ward's exclusive Patty and the elusive Bud, Tammy's boyfriend who was produced in small numbers near the time when Ideal ceased production of all Tammy Family dolls in mid 1960's.
