Tamizhaga Munnetra Kazhagam

Tamizhaga Munnetra Kazhagam (Tamil Progressive Federation), political party in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. TMK was floated by All India Devendra Kula Velalar Sangam (a Dalit caste organization in Tamil Nadu) in 2000. The party president is John Pandian, a militant Dalit leader with criminal record. Pandian was formerly in the Pattali Makkal Katchi.
In the 2001 Tamil Nadu state legislative assembly elections, TMK was allied with the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. TMK was allotted the Egmore seat, and Pandian stood as an AIADMK candidate there. Pandian was defeated by a Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate.
In August 2001 the General Secretary of TMK, Ganesa Pandian, was killed.
Pandian was arrested January 20 2002 charged with extortion. Pandian was then already accused for murder.
