Tamils Rehabilitation Organisation

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Tamils Rehabilitation Organisation, or TRO, was established in 1985 by the LTTE to provide relief, rehabilitation and development for the people of the North-East of Sri Lanka. During its twenty years of existence the TRO has initiated a large number of projects to benefit of the Sri Lankan Tamils. The TRO also gave very quick and efficient help after the Tsunami struck in 2004.

TRO is however closely linked to the LTTE and is thus viewed with scepticism by both NGOs and governments as financially covertly supporting the armed wing of the LTTE. Inside the LTTE controlled areas in northern Sri Lanka NGOs have to work in tandem with the TRO.
