Tallaght Stadium

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tallaght Stadium is a football stadium currently under construction in Tallaght in south-west Dublin, Ireland. It is to be the new home stadium for Shamrock Rovers and will have a capacity for 6,000 (seated eventually) spectators. The stadium's construction has been delayed on many occasions but South Dublin County Council have taken control of the project due to Rovers' financial difficulties. It is believed that the stadium may be ready for the start of the 2008 summer season. This stadium will be the Rovers' first permanent home since they left Glenmalure Park in Milltown. South Dublin County Council approved plans to complete the stadium in late November, 2005. Under the deal, the council will own the stadium with Rovers being the main, tenants.

In early 2006, Thomas Davis GAA club took a judicial review to ensure that the stadium could be used for Gaelic Games as well. The stadium would need to be redesigned to accommodate Gaelic Games. The existing stand would need to be altered and the ground capacity may have to be reduced to construct a larger pitch as Gaelic Games pitches are larger than soccer pitches. On November the 23rd 2006 the final decision on the matter will be taken by a High Court judge.
