[edit] The Rule of Silence
The Rule of Silence Author: Kara Dalkey Collected in: Vol. IV Setting: Seville, Spain, 1481 The Slayer, Esperanza de la Vega, is a Marrano and this makes her a heretic. Reading about demons does not help her standing.
A "marrano", also known as a "converso", was a Jew who was forced to convert to Christianity. This made the convert a Christian in the eye of the Church. According Wiktionary, a heretic is someone who doesn't obey to the dogmatic rules of any religion, or who is considered disloyal to [a specific] religion.
If de la Vega is not a heretic in the eyes of the Church, but nothing here suggests that she is still connected to Judaism, in whose opinion is she a heretic?
Thanks, YHC
