Tales for the L33T
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tales for the L33T is a twelve-minute Flash movie created by Chris Coutts in 1999. It is an extremely crude adaptation (deliberately so) of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, performed by stick figures who speak grotesquely simplified l33t versions of their original dialogue. The play has been greatly abridged (as stated in the prologue, OMFG THIS IS 2 HOURS LONG, SCREW U I QUYTI (sic). Nevertheless, the overall plot remains faithful to the 16th century version. Several elements of the production recall 1996's Baz Luhrmann film Romeo + Juliet, such as the bombastic pop soundtrack, and Romeo's odd, almond-shaped hairstyle resembling Leonardo DiCaprio's coif.
As of 2005, the file romjul.swf is mirrored in over one thousand locations online.
Coutts has since produced a l33t version of Hamlet, which is of lesser popularity.
