Tal Bachman
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tal Bachman (born August 13, 1972 in Winnipeg, Manitoba) is a Canadian singer-songwriter from Vancouver, British Columbia. He is best known for his late 1999 hit, "She's So High" on his self-titled 1999 album. He is the son of musician Randy Bachman of The Guess Who and Bachman-Turner Overdrive fame.
Raised in the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (of which he is no longer a member), Bachman served a two-year mission for the church in Argentina. For nearly three years after returning to the United States and attending college at Utah State and BYU, he worked on his music career, and got his break when Bob Rock (of Aerosmith and Metallica fame) signed on to coproduce his debut album. His first album, Tal Bachman, featured what would eventually become its hit single, "She’s So High," which would reach #1 on three different radio formats in Canada. The song became a multi-format Top 10 hit in the United States and internationally.
Bachman won a BMI award for "She's So High," which was one of the biggest radio songs of the year, as well as two Juno Awards in Canada for Song of the Year and Producer of the Year. The song peaked at #1 on the Billboard Adult Top 40 Chart, #14 on the Billboard Hot 100, and Number 30 on the UK singles chart. His songs can be heard on several motion picture soundtracks. Norwegian Kurt Nilsen also recorded the song, which hit #1 in Norway and a huge hit in Europe.
Bachman's second album, Staring Down The Sun, was released in Canada on Sextant Records in August 2004, and is awaiting release in the United States, by Artemis Records, in 2006. The single "Aeroplane" reached #20 on the Canadian charts.
Bachman currently lives in Victoria, British Columbia.
