Taivalkoski

Taivalkoski is a municipality of Finland, it is located in the Province of Oulu and is part of the Northern Ostrobothnia region.

The childhood home of author Kalle Päätalo has become one of the most visited tourist attractions in Taivalkoski.

The municipality has a population of 4,869 (end of 2003) and covers an area of 2,657.50 km² of which 200.88 km² is water. The population density is 2.0 inhabitants per km².

The municipality is unilingually Finnish.

Taivalkoski was the home of famous writer Kalle Päätalo and tv-comedian Pekka Jalava. Also world champion ski jumper Tapio Räisänen and ice hockey-player Joni Pitkänen were born in Taivalkoski.

Taivalkoski is also famous of beautiful river Iijoki, which runs through the central of the village.
