From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Taikoo Shing, or Tai Koo Shing (太古城), is a private housing estate in Quarry Bay, Hong Kong Island, Hong Kong. It forms part of the Island East with Taikoo Place and Cityplaza. The housing estate consists of 61 buildings divided in 8 sections: On Shing Terrace, Kam Din Terrace, Horizon Gardens, Sing Fai Terrace, Kwun Hoi Terrace, Kao Shan Terrace, Tsui Woo Terrace and Harbour View Gardens. There is a complex of a shopping mall and 3 office towers called Cityplaza One, Three & Four, which is a focal point of residents in Quarry Bay and the rest of the Eastern District.

The site was once the site of Taikoo Dockyard, and its foundation stone is now laid beside Cityplaza 2. The dockyard was moved to United Dockyards at the west shore of the Tsing Yi Island in late 1970s, and Taikoo Shing was constructed over the site.

Taikoo Shing is a typical middle class community in Hong Kong. Apartments at Taikoo Shing are so popular among the middle class that their prices are often used as an indicator of the real estate market in Hong Kong.

The estate is also popular among Japanese and Korean staff of transnational companies in Hong Kong. There is a Japanese and Korean community in this private estate.

The Estate is served by Tai Koo Station of the Island Line.
