Tafjord
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tafjord is a branch of the Norddalsfjord in Norddal municipality in the county of Møre og Romsdal, Norway.
[edit] History
When Olaf II of Norway fled up the Storfjord to escape the forces of Canute the Great, he and his men journeyed up fjord until he passed through the Norddalsfjord and reached the Tafjord. From there they passed north up the Valldal valley to the head of the Isfjord and on up the Romsdal through Lesja on his way to exile in Russia.[1]
In 1934 a landslide into the Tafjord created a local tsunami which killed 47 people living on the shore of the fjord.[1]
