Taco del Mar
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Taco del Mar is a Seattle, Washington based restaurant chain that specializes in San Francisco burritos. Since opening in Seattle on June 8, 1992 by brothers James and John Schmidt, it has expanded into over 200 locations in 26 U.S. states including Alaska and Hawai`i, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and all Canadian provinces (but not in the territories of Nunavut, Northwest Territories and Yukon). It is known for its relaxed, baja atmosphere and its huge burritos.
The name "Taco del Mar" (means "taco of the sea" in Spanish) comes from the earlier time of TDM's history when it marketed itself as a purveyor of fish tacos. As with most typical San Francisco burritos, TDM assembles large-sized burritos in an "assembly line" and in a large wheat tortilla (in most parts of Mexico, corn tortillas are more common).
It is similar to larger chains such as Chipotle and Qdoba.
