Table Rock, Niagara Falls

Table Rock is named for the site on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. At one point, a flat rock or 'table' jutted out over the Horseshoe Falls and opposite of the vantage point at Prospect Point Park on the American side.
The rock was visited by the people of the First Nations for many years as sacred place, but it was made famous by the visit of French explorer and priest Louis Hennepin around 1680-1681.
In 1818, the first part of the rock collapsed and the next major part collapsed in 1848. Other collapses occurred in 1828, 1829, 1850, 1862, 1887, 1889 and 1891. The last part was manually removed in 1935.
Today the area retains the name as a Table Rock Point Park and the Table Rock Restaurant.
