I've read somewhere that long-term use/abuse of synthehol causes a psychological (though not physical) addiction, similar to that of cannibis. Can anyone confirm this as canonical, or is this just fanon?--Mitsukai 2 July 2005 21:24 (UTC)

Hard to prove a negative. Assume fanon until someone says otherwise, I don't recall mention in the shows.Chairboy 2 July 2005 22:35 (UTC)

[edit] Redirect

I have redirected Synthahol to point to this article, and put all non-redundant information from that article into this one. That should take care of the double article problem here.

[edit] Invented by the Ferengi?

The idea that Ferengi invented synthahol is a thoroughly non-canon one. Nor has the toast "To the Ferengi!" been heard. To my recollection, this was an idea that surfaced in some early TNG novels. Does it come from the series Bible or some other such source?

While I make no claim to a perfect memory, I can recall no episode in which synthehol is described as a Ferengi invention. I'm removing this until such time as someone can provide a citation.

[edit] Not actually intoxicating?

From all the TNG I have seen, there is no evidence that Synthahol is actually intoxicating. And in the episode "Family", Picard's brother says, "This.....Synthahol.....never leaves you out of control? Is that so?" Picard replies, "That's so". Picard's brother then points to some real alcoholic wine and says, "This will". —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.159.226.179 (talk • contribs) .

Troi's flashback in "Violations" seems to suggest that too much synthohol can lead to, shall we say, reduced inhibitions. I'm not sure: the flashback was all effed up anyhow. My two strips of latinum. --EEMeltonIV 04:27, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
Trick question. The quote that comes to mind: "[synthehol's] intoxicating effects can be easily dismissed." This would be Data explaining to Scotty why the alcohol tastes funny (so I remember, at least), from TNG:Relics. This implies that yes, synthehol does have some sort of an effect on users; however, the effects either last for a very short time or are, to quote Data, able to be dismissed easily (though how one does that we can only guess). --Ourai 20:05, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
Possibly it's like spinning around and around. If you stop for awhile and rest yourself you lose any dizziness or giddiness fairly quick. If you choose to keep spinning around you don't. How a chemical could achieve that I'm not sure.--T. Anthony 09:26, 9 November 2006 (UTC)
