Sylvain Salnave

Sylvain Salnave (7 February 1826 in Haut du Cap - 1870 in Port-au-Prince) was a Haïtian general. He was the President of Haïti from 1867 to 1870. Some sources say that he proclaimed himself an emperor, though this is disputed. Salnave was the son of Jean-Baptiste Salnave.

He led a failed rebellion against President Fabre Geffrard in 1865. On June 14th, 1867 he was elected president after the overthrow of Geffrard. He was defeated and killed by radical republicans in Port-au-Prince on 15 January, 1870. He had two sons, Victor and Félix,who later on led political missions throughout Haiti.
