Syed Modi (1962-1988) was eight times National Badminton champion of India. He was married to Ameeta Kulkarni, a national women's badminton champion . He was murdered in 1988 in Lucknow. The police arrested Sanjay Singh, a politician on charge of conspiracy of the murder. Syed's wife Ameeta married Sanjay Singh a few months after Syed's murder.
