Syed Hamid Albar

Datuk Seri Syed Hamid bin Syed Jaabar Albar (born January 15, 1944), is a Malaysian politician and currently is the Malaysian foreign minister. He is a member of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO), the main political party in the country. He was born in Kampong Malayu Air Hitam, Penang, Malaysia, to Tan Sri Syed Jaabar Albar, also a Malaysian politician.

Syed Hamid Albar has been active in UMNO since his student days. As a student, he set up a club for Malaysian expatriates and students in London. Later, he became a member of UMNO Supreme Council in 1986. Soon after, he joined the Malaysian cabinet as a minister in the oil department and then as minister of law. In 1995, he was appointed as a defense minister and in 1999, he was appointed to his current position.
