Okay, I've created this page in order to discuss the NPOV issue regarding my creating an autobiographical article. I'm learning about the Wikipedia procedure and protocol as I go along. Had I known that this would be such a seemingly serious issue I wouldn't have done this. Now it seems like there's no turning back.

I've made several edits, many of them to fix typos end minor things of that nature, but some to neutralize content after learning about NPOV. The only area of the article that I addressed was in paragraph 1 and 2 in the 'Career' section. I believe the description of "soulful and cerebral" to be fair and accurate and a reflection of the opinions of various published reviews, etc. Also, I changed the statement about the Stand! CD and added quotes from reviews to demonstrate the predominant feeling of existing published reviews of the recording. All other information in thye article is simply factual and can be verified via other available biographies, CD notes, etc.

Would someone PLEASE help me remedy this situation? That being the big red symbol on the top of my article!

I presume you have read the information in WP:AUTO about why an autobiographical article can be a bad thing. Here's my comments on what could be improved:

  • The leading para mentioning Sonny Rollins as a "legend" is unverified. You could either give a source for him as a "legend" or remove the word.
  • The leading para talks about an association between you and Sonny during formative years, a source for this should be added
  • In the Career section can you please give proper references for the quotes from journalists? Eg, publication, date, page (if relevant)
  • You may believe that "soulful and cerebal" is fair, in doing so you have demonstrated the point in WP:AUTO about autobiographies possibly being positively biased. I take no view about whether this statement is fair or not, however as you make it about yourself I would tend to dismiss it, unless you can provide a source for it. If there is no source I suggest you remove it.
  • You should establish notability in line with WP:MUSIC otherwise the article might still be considered for deletion. The link has details on what makes a musician or group notable. Again, in gerneral, sources are required, although it might be reasonable to take on trust albums published.

You say that all other information in the article can be verified via "other biographies, CD notes, etc." — great, so do provide references for them and there can be little argument as long as they are reliable sources.

I hope this helps. Also please sign your posts using ~~~~.Rich257 08:06, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks Rich. Yes, I have read the Wiki page re. autobiographical articles, but unfortunately, I became aware of it and this whole NPOV issue after I started my article. Of course I understand the issue. However, it is NOT my intention (or style) to misrepresent myself, career, or anything I've done in it. I would like to prove this by tending to this article until it meets both Wikipedia's approval and my satisfaction as well. otherwise, I'll scrap the whole thing and hope that it will be deleted. 71.194.37.157 15:41, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
