Sycamore Smith
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sycamore Smith is the stage name of Marc Smith, a musician from Marquette, Michigan. Smith, formerly of The Muldoons, has toured the United States with his uniquely comic brand of folk music, complete with derby hat, guitar, and kazoo.
Though little known outside of the Michigan area, his popularity is slowly growing, in most part due to his excellent website and some loyal fans spreading the word. Ever since his stint as lead singer of The Muldoons Smith has built a reputation as an accomplished lyricist.
A vaudevillian rural torpor drifts through Smith's old-timey songs about heroes and swindlers where characters such as Wolfskin Rosie, Legless Paul, and Bobo have adventures that are at times triumphant and other times melancholic. Selections such as Hokum All Ye Faithful have had the result of Sycamore being pegged as an atheist, though he is probably best described as an agnostic.
Smith has collaborated with his childhood friend Freepy Shwirtel on projects such as a jug-less jug-band (the Bros. Ape) and a Choose Your Own Adventure story (the Scoundrel's Dream). Freepy's contributions to this Wikipedia article have had the result of him being pegged as a vandal, though he is probably best described as a visigoth.
Sycamore Smith is rumored to have lived on Old Kiln Road near Harvey, Michigan solely because the address looked good on promotional materials. Though he recently lived in an actual shanty near the mouth of the Chocolay River (see Shan-Tan-Titty Town) his present address is unknown at the time of this writing. Reports of Chocolay Township's recent purchase of Shantytown for the purpose of razing the grounds for a combination Drunken Citizens Housing Coalition/Museum of Sycamore seem to be Wikispurious. Also--the word "Wikispurious" seems to be Wikitarded.
Other rumors about Sycamore Smith are: that he was born in an underwater geodesic dome located on the floor of the Black Sea; that he is wanted in Morocco in connection with the theft of the legendary Coelacanth Ruby; and that he is currently composing an opera based on the life of his musical hero Nervous Norvus entitled "A Ukulele and a Cuckoo Alien."
Old Kiln Road is, in fact, the name of the road where Muldoon HQ was located, back when that band was still a going concern. Sycamore did not live there. If Sycamore were to choose an address based solely on its ability to spice up his promotional materials, he would surely reside on either "Iron Basketball Avenue" or "Boiled Grandpa Boulevard," both located in beautiful Pike City, Michigan.
