[edit] Welcome to Wikipedia!

Dear SwedishConqueror: Welcome to Wikipedia, a free and open-content encyclopedia. I hope you enjoy contributing. To help get you settled in, I thought you might find the following pages useful:

Don't worry too much about being perfect. Very few of us are! Just in case you are not perfect, click here to see how you can avoid making common mistakes.

If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions.

Wikipedians try to follow a strict policy of never biting new users. If you are unsure of how to do something, you are welcome to ask a more experienced user such as an administrator. One last bit of advice: please sign any dicussion comment with four tildes (~~~~). The software will automatically convert this into your signature which can be altered in the "Preferences" tab at the top of the screen. I hope I have not overwhelmed you with information. If you need any help just let me know. Once again welcome to Wikipedia, and don't forget to tell us about yourself and be BOLD! --omtay38 23:15, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hello!

Hi, I got your message on my page (just a note, when you want to leave a message for another user it's best to do it on his or her talk page, like mine. Also if you type four tildes, (like this ~~~~) the Wikipedia software will substitute that with a link to your user page so it's easer to find you). Now for your question. I have taken a look at your contributions and see the problem you are having. This is happening because with every entry you make, the first line begins with several spaces. I have gone in to most of the pages you have edited and have fixed the formatting. I would suggest going into your user page (where the same thing has happened) and removing the spaces at the beginning of each of the lines. This should fix your issue. If you have any other questions or if you still are having problems, please do not hesitate to leave a message on my talk page. Cheers! --omtay38 00:09, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

Hello again! The four squiggly things I'm talking about are called "tildes". If your using a QWERTY keyboard (and you probably are), the key is to the left of the one in the upper left hand corner (you have to press shift to use them). The four tildes is a shortcut that Wikipedians use to sign their names to talk pages. For example, when I type "~~~~" the Wikipedia software creates "omtay38 13:40, 7 August 2006 (UTC)". It is courteous to type the four tildes at the end of messages on talk pages to allow other users to know who you are, when you wrote the message, and to give them a link to your user page. I would suggest checking out the Tutorial for more information on things like this. There are hundreds of these typing shortcuts that Wikipedians use to create things like links, bold words, and italics. As always, thank you so much for your questions on my talk page and please feel free to ask any other questions you might have. Happy Editing! --omtay38 13:40, 7 August 2006 (UTC)

P.S. Tale of Two Cities is an awesome book!

[edit] Hint

Anytime you have a question, feel free to ask; but consider this hint: Compare article pages in normal viewing with the same article page in edit mode. And you can try things out in your own sandbox: User:SwedishConqueror/sandbox. (Note the color is different if it doesn't exist. Click it. Edit it. And it does exist. And changes color.) [edit] United States Congressional Delegations

You ought not put colloquialisms like "this delegations is solidly Red" in an article. See how I've written it in the beginning summary of United States Congressional Delegations from Massachusetts. You ought not link "Red" and "Blue" to the articles about the colors, because the delegation is not literally blue or red. Maybe you should say "mostly Republican". And, why are you pipe-linking Red to sksk? —Markles

[edit] Image:Congresscolors109.gif listed for deletion

An image or media file that you uploaded or altered, Image:Congresscolors109.gif, has been listed at Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion. Please look there to see why this is (you may have to search for the title of the image to find its entry), if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. [edit] Are You a Civil War Buff?

Hi. My name is Harper32, and I've been off of Wikipedia for a while now! I had to take a break, but I think I'm truly addicted. Anyway, I saw your work on the Maryland infantry and was very interested. I love the Civil War, and wanted to know if you were also an enthusiast. If so, hopefully you could share some of your sources with me.

Also allow me to extent a welcome to Wikipedia, though based on your log it would appear you've been rather busy! Good articles.

Does that ponytail thing actually work? Sorry, I'm being facetious; I've never had a desire to grow one. It just takes too long. You said that you've been growing your ponytail for four years, which is a really long time, but someone could walk up to you right now, grab your ponytail, and cut it off in four seconds. All those years, and you'd just have a long ponytail, really just a mass of hair, lying on the floor. See what I mean? (I'm joking with you)

Anyway, keep up the good editing.

[edit] Image tagging for Image:Princesssarahofsierraleone.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Princesssarahofsierraleone.jpg. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

[edit] Christa Hoyt

This article was a non-notable biography according to the criteria set out in WP:BIO. (aeropagitica) 05:06, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] AfD

I have put the article Madsen family curse up for deletion because it is unreferenced, and seems to be unverifiable, simply based on a Google search. If you can provide sources, and more of a claim of importance, please include that in the article and comment on the afd page. Thanks, Mak (talk) 21:07, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

Yes, non-web sources are fine, as long as they are published. I do believe your article was written in good faith, but I don't believe it's appropriate for Wikipedia (although you could always change my mind!). I'm afraid that even if you can find information on the individual cases, the article would still be unverified, unless you find sources which talk about the curse as a curse. If this is a piece of your family history, remember that it may be more relevant to you and your family than to a wider audience, and that unfortunately oral histories are not considered reliable sources on Wikipedia. Cheers, Mak (talk) 21:15, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
Just to make sure there is no confusion, what you are adding right now is content, not sources. See WP:V for more information on what you need to add. Mak (talk) 21:48, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] White afro prodded

Hi there. In the midst of an AfD discussion, I encountered a White afro article that has been tagged for awhile and without any sources (there also seems to be a merge proposal as well). So I added to the tags and nominated it for deletion for all the reasons stated by the tags and on the AfD. If you don't think the article is worth the effort to improve it, it will go away in about five days; if the prod tag is removed without addressing the issues presented by the tags, the article will be brought to AfD shortly after the removal. Best wishes, B.Wind 19:52, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
