From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Swerve's (Japanese name: Wave) first appearance was during 1986 where he was a Mini-Bot with a SUV mode - a remold of Gears. As with most Mini-Bots released during that year, Swerve's first appearance in the original cartoon was during the fifth part of Five Faces of Darkness where he helped his fellow Mini-Bots defend the Ark against the gigantic Decepticon Trypticon but unfortunately gets stepped on... His second and last appearance in the cartoon was during episode #76 Forever is a Long Time Coming. He did not make any appearances in Marvel's comics but he made a cameo appearance in Dreamwave's War and Peace #3 - "Cold War" and later G1 #2 - "Black Sunshine".

Due to his lack of exposure in Transformer fiction, Swerve quickly faded into obscurity.

Biography

Swerve isn't your typical "absent-minded" scientist. At first glance, he might appear that way. Swerve rarely pays attention to the collateral damage caused by his furious driving, and he's prone to forget completely about orders when struck by a brainstorm. But Swerve could be more accurately described as a "single-minded" scientist; his poor driving and inability to focus on what's being said to him are due to his determination to finish whatever main project he's been assigned. He's constantly tabulating information and trying to come up with a solution to some question he's been tolling over, although it sometimes interferes with whatever else he might be doing at that moment. The Autobots find his intensity admirable, but nobody wants to drive next to him when he's got an enigma on his mind.

Swerve has above-average srength and great intelligence. He is an expert at metallurgical science. In vehicle mode, he can travel at speeds of 120 mph for up to 500 miles. In robot mode, his hands contain sensors that can divine the chemical and physical properties of metals and various substances.

Swerve isn't heavily armored, putting him at risk during firefights and combat operations. His poor driving forces him to undergo numerous minor and major repairs.

Swerve reappeared with great surprise to many during 2004 as a red repaint of the Armada Autobot Blurr. He is now partnered to the Mini-Con Roadhandler. It is not known how this upgrade has affected Swerve as a character, or if it is even G1 Swerve at all.

No official tech spec has even been made for Swerve and he has not appeared in any Universe storyline. Oddly enough, a car similar to Universe Swerve has made cameos in the Transformers: Cybertron television series, but he's never been named, and he's not an exact match for color.

[edit] Transformers Alternators (2005)

A year later, and with even more surprise, Swerve made another appearance as the fifteenth Alternator where he was a slight remold of the Chevrolet Corvette Tracks. Unlike most Alternators, Swerve did not make an appearance in the Japanese equivalent, Binaltech. Again, thanks to Hasbro's lack of characterisation, it is not known how this upgrade has affected Swerve or even why he became an Alternator in the storyline.

Because Swerve is a red recolor of Tracks, many have taken to calling him Road Rage, the name of a Japanese exclusive red repaint of Generation 1 Tracks.

[edit] Transformers Cybertron (2006)

In 2006, a new character with the name Swerve will be released as an American-only repaint of the scout class toy Clocker. This Swerve is nothing like the original as his bio shows:

Impatient and short-tempered, SWERVE is a robot whose processors run so hot he was forced to install a backup exhaust system just to compensate for the excess heat. After his suspension from official races for poor sportsmanship, he found himself in the seedy underground oil-sport racing circuit. There, running races in which the last robot standing is declared victor, he's finally found an outlet for his temper, and a use for his lightning fast reflexes and sharp-shooting skills.

In 2006 a special edition of Swerve was available in Walmart stores which contained a DVD with the episode "Cybertron" as a promotional item - despite the fact that he wasn't in that episode.

His color scheme, combinded with Clocker's design resemble the original Hot Rod from the G1 Series.

[edit] Notes

Up to this point, there has never been a Transformer named Swerve with his own original mold - he has only been a repaint or remold from someone else but the running theme of a Swerve toy being red and white in color continues.
