Sven is not an "Old German" name. It is a scandinavian name. This comment was added by 84.58.37.47.

Yes and No. The language from which the name originated is Old Norse. It is a Germanic name, as most of Scandinavia, Germany and England is hisotrically Germanic terriotiry and most languages in this area such as German, Dutch, Swedish, and English are Germanic languages that are all related.

Old Norse was mutually intelligible with Old English, Old Saxon and Old Low Franconian. It gradually evolved into the modern North Germanic languages: Icelandic, Faroese, Norwegian, Danish and Swedish.
