Suzuki Sadayu

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Suzuki Sadayū (鈴木佐太夫?) (????-1585) was a warlord of the province of Kii during the Sengoku Period of the 16th century Japan. Sadayu was a very prominent leader over the Saika of Kawachi province and held Saiga castle. Sadayu assisted the Honganji and Hatakeyama Sadamasa in their resistance against that of Oda Nobunaga. Sadayu led a powerful unit of arquebusiers at the Ishiyama Hongan-ji. Sadayu died however following the year of 1585 due to Toyotomi Hideyoshi's extermination of religious factors in Kii province. Some believe that Toda Takatora had arrangements for Sadayu to commit suicide however. It is truly known that Sadayu and his men were in essence mercenaries, at first fighting in battles that had no effect to the domain of Suzuki.
