Suzuki SV650

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Suzuki SV650 motorcycle was introduced in 1999 as Suzuki's budget-conscious entry into the emerging naked bike market and was met with immediate success. With a very reasonable MSRP of $5999 in the US, the bike provides a ride that is decidedly sporty though easily manageable, and an excellent value for the money. The combination of a light-weight rigid chassis, surprisingly competent handling, and strong midrange torque from its rumbly yet smooth twin can be appreciated by beginner and experienced riders, alike. Since its introduction, two versions have been in production: the naked SV650, and the SV650S, which is half-faired and features clip-ons and more rear-set footpegs (among other minor differences) for a sportier ride. The bike is very popular with amateur racers due to its low initial cost, rigid frame, and relative simplicity. The SV650 has a big brother in the form of the SV1000. In 2003 the SV650 was redesigned with a new pressure cast aluminum truss frame and bodywork along with a new sophisticated electronic fuel injection/induction system to replace the original carbureted model. From 2007, both SV650 and SV650S model are also available in a ABS equipped version and the engine will also have twin spark plugs for emission control.

Gen. 2 Changes

For 2004, Suzuki used a new, 40 mm-lower subframe and a seat with a narrower design in the front. Trail was also raised by 2 mm, and the rear fender was restyled to clean up the area under the tail lights and provide more protection against flying debris.

In 2005, the frame was changed from silver to a matte black finish.
