[edit] User:GarrettRock
- Evidence
See Wikipedia_talk:Featured_picture_candidates#.22Sock_Puppet_Votes.22 more for discussion.
These users have been uploading photos with undescriptive file names, such as
- Image:3780.JPG by User:ButterLips. [1]
- Image:PICT3234.JPG and other photos by User:Polarqueen. [2]
- Image:100 0321.JPG by User:Daniellebercier. [3]
- Image:IMG 1040.JPG by User:GarrettRock
The photos have a theme relating to flowers and botanical gardens, as well as vacation pictures from Ontario, Quebec, Boston, New York City, Colorado, and Wyoming.
This "user" has then nominated several of these photos on WP:FPC.
- <Pigeon on the Empire State Building - by Polarqueen (talk • contribs)
- Daffodil - by 67.33.193.152 (talk • contribs)
- Wildflower - by Polarqueen (talk • contribs)
- Neoregelia - by GarrettRock (talk • contribs)
- Orchids - by 70.179.197.52 (talk • contribs)
- Blushing Bride Hibiscus - by N3RUS (talk • contribs)
The "user" then uses the suspected sockpuppet accounts to register multiple votes of support for the featured picture candidates.
Other evidence includes:
- ButterLips (talk • contribs) added the "Pigeon on the Empire State Building" to New York City, [4], which was later removed. Polarqueen (talk • contribs) readded this image to New York City p[5], and again was reverted. --Aude (talk | contribs) 00:21, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
- Some of the users have been missigning pages as each other: [6] [7]
- I suggest that everyone takes a look at the evidence I have presented for the strange behaviour of User:ButterLips here. —Vanderdecken∴∫ξφ

I think the evidence is conclusive enough to merit a block of the sockpuppets. But first, I'd like a word with GarrettRock (WP:AGF) and inform them about the sockpuppet policy. It's my hope to educate the user. --Aude (talk | contribs) 00:21, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
- All four of the original images you have listed as submitted by them have originated from different cameras as evidenced by the EXIF data. This doesn't mean they aren't sockpuppets though - it could be that these images aren't even taken by themselves which is perhaps a more serious issue than sockpuppeting. - Actually I find it odd that GarrettRock (talk • contribs), Polarqueen (talk • contribs), and Daniellebercier (talk • contribs) were all shooting Kodak dual lens V570 cameras (an unusual camera that has only been on the market for 6 months) on the same day, April 19, 2006. Again, not definitive, but supportive of the charge. SteveHopson 16:57, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
- These users are not me! I am friends, however, with "Polarqueen" who is my cousin and also a fan of my work and therefore she joined Wikipedia to support my work and also contribute some of hers. You will also notice that I opposed the picture submitted by "Daniellebercier/67.33.193.152" which is further evidence that it's NOT ME! And as for "Butterlips" I have absolutely no clue who this contributer is! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by GarrettRock (talk • contribs) 16:33, 16 June 2006.
- I "GarrettRock" know how to submit photos properly. Notice how the other users who are accused of being sockpuppets don't know how to properly submit or display their works. And just because there is a "common theme" of these works is poor evidence. BTW, I have never been to New York nor Ouray, Colorado though there is no way I can prove such. For all I care, you can remove these users because they are separate contributers to Wikipedia! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by GarrettRock (talk • contribs) 16:38, 16 June 2006.
- I reported this event on the FPC talk page. All these users behaved in the same manner and they "support" each others' FPC. I think that we can conclude that they're the same users. For new users, they frequently use Edit Summaries (Especially Polarqueen). The "Userbox case" is ok because newbies usually look at other people's user pages. New users don't use edit summaries unless they were one of those experienced IP users or people who used Wikipedia in the past.Anonymous__Anonymous 16:22, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
- I have also had several dealings (coincidentally) with the people mentioned here. I have presented a suspicion of sockpuppeting report here, and have so far been told to WP:FAITH. Seeing this actually compounds my argument, and I suggest that everyone takes a look at the evidence I have presented against User:ButterLips here. I have also had some strange dealings with User:67.33.193.152 on FPC, which you can see by looking at my notes and the various diffs on the FPC nomination page for that NYC photo here. Note the rigging by 67.33.193.152 and the various measures that I had to go through to kick the nom into shape. —Vanderdecken∴∫ξφ 19:31, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
- It also appears that User:70.179.197.52 is GarrettRock when he has forgotten to sign in, as revealed by the diffs of GarrettRock's userpage here. It also appears that User:Jkelly (who is not at all suspect) was asked to remove some duplicate images of GarrettRock's from Wikipedia. Jkelly then altered GarrettRock's userpage several times to reflect the new image names. —Vanderdecken∴∫ξφ 08:28, 17 June 2006 (UTC)
- I have checked these users' contributions to Wikipedia so far. Fpwannabe (talk • contribs) and
Tewy (talk • contribs). They behaved in the same manner and used edit summaries (which usually new users don't do). They also seemed like sockpuppets. Anonymous__Anonymous 22:02, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
-
- I checked Tewy (talk • contribs) again. Doesn't seem to be a sock. Anonymous__Anonymous 22:06, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
- I think it would be fair under WP:FAITH to assume that User:GarrettRock is indeed not involved in the rest of the sockpuppeteering, appart from 70.179.197.52, the IP address assigned to edits he does while not logged in. The rest of the suspected SockPuppets are obviously related to each other, and should be blocked. As long as GarrettRock's future edits are in line with Wikipedia policy and no other sockpuppets appear that have connections to him, I see no problem. --NoahElhardt 23:21, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
- Another one? User:Preyquis, only edits are on June 13th, the first on FPC. --Janke | Talk 21:39, 18 June 2006 (UTC)
